Stowaway to Berlin
We were absolutely delighted to be involved with local Suffolk author Nicolas Hill to help publish his first paperback novel; “Stowaway to Berlin” (also available on Amazon).
On a gorgeous sunny day in August, we drove to meet Nicolas and his typesetter Chris. We discussed the best way to publish his project at his private residence on the coast in Aldeburgh. The meeting was a great success and together we decided upon the overall look and feel of the book.
Books are tactile, beautiful things and we wanted this to have a high quality feel in the hand. We chose the paper stocks carefully and then proceeded to provide samples of the paper chosen, to ensure we got the look and feel exactly right.
As well as doing all of the typesetting, Chris also did a great job on the design and layout. The design of the cover is moody and evocative and to maximise the impact of the book we decided upon matt lamination and subtle use of silver foil on some of the text, which made for a very eye catching cover. The text pages have a classic, timeless look and a quality feel; we used Fedrigoni Bioprima 100gsm paper, made in Italy, in a soft, off-white shade.
Some of the finer detail
The cover was digitally printed on our High Definition Kodak NexPress on 275gsm Ensocoat coated one sided board (FSC) from Premier Paper. The text was litho printed on our Heidelberg B1 5 colour press with inline coater on Fedrigoni Bioprima 100gsm paper. The text sections were then folded, gathered and perfect bound using PUR glue, strong, flexible and built to last!
The end product was delivered a couple of weeks after the proofs were signed off and Nicolas was absolutely delighted with the results.
